Our beginnings as a Leeds based SEO agency

Digital Energy is an SEO agency based in Morley, Leeds. The business was founded in 2014, primarily dealing with web development services, and has quickly grown to become one of the leading SEO agencies operating within the Leeds metropolitan area.

We’re based just south of the city and can be reached by car from central Leeds in around 10 minutes.

As we’ve grown as an agency, our SEO services have quickly become a popular option. We’ve worked with some of the region’s fastest growing and most exciting brands, as well as established businesses looking to expand their digital marketing activities. Our SEO services are designed to be a practical solution, with success measured around return on investment.

What is SEO?

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is a digital marketing strategy, which falls under the umbrella of search engine marketing (SEM). SEO is the process of improving the ranking of your website in search results pages on Google and Bing amoung others. If your website is not ranking, then it isn’t being found by potential customers. An SEO strategy can help promote your digital presence, ideally pushing your content to the first page of Google for specific phrases.

While there are multiple sources of traffic that your website can receive (also referred to as channels), such as social media, direct and referral traffic, SEO deals primarily with optimising for organic traffic, which is traffic that comes from search engines at no cost.

We are an affordable SEO agency

While our focus is delivering the best possible service, we’ve also managed to keep our prices far more competitive than many other agencies operating in the region.

We've a range of monthly price points, giving you a transparent and clear service that you can depend on.

Our SEO considerations

We understand what you want to achieve is unique to your business and its goals. That’s why our Leeds-based agency takes a unique approach with every partner we work with.

For instance, if you are marketing towards a local audience, we'll be creating an SEO strategy which factors in local words and phrases that would be a better fit for your potential audience. We’d also use various SEO best practices, including use of local directory listings and tools like Google My Business, alongside various technical tweaks, like implementing Rich Snippets to highlight your location, opening times and more.

An SEO campaign revolves around keywords or keyphrases, these are the words (or a combination of words) we want to promote in search engines, like Google. Picking the correct keywords to promote is hugely important and involves using a range of keyword research tools. We like to look at how hard these words are to rank for, how much traffic they get and their relevance to your website. Once we've got a list of great candidate keywords, we'll work with you to ensure we pick the terms which are the best fit for your business and its businesses goals.

Let's use this page as an example! Looking at relevant terms for this page, we can quickly shortlist a few candidates, shown in the table below:

Keyword Volume Keyword Difficulty Potential
1 digital agency leeds 720 56 Medium
2 marketing agency leeds 1000 48 Medium
3 digital marketing companies leeds 170 38 Low
4 digital marketing agency leeds 480 53 Medium
5 digital marketing leeds 210 41 Low
6 seo agency leeds 590 24 High
7 leeds seo 260 25 Medium

Note: The above is for illustrative purposes only, and is not our SEO chap trying to stuff loads of brilliant keywords onto a page specifically about SEO… *Coughs*

The data shows us what keywords to target, and importantly, which aren't going to be as good. While keywords 1 and 2 have high monthly search volumes, they’re fairly competitive, so these might be ones we target further down the line. However, the ‘SEO agency Leeds’ stands out as a great candidate. Not only does it have a relatively high monthly search volume, but it’s also not overly competitive. Brilliant!

Our SEO process

We know your business has unique requirements, so we try and keep our SEO framework as open and adaptable as possible. Our process is designed around your needs, and ultimately we aim to implement a strategy that will result in increased goals being completed on your website.

How we measure progress

Setting up benchmarks & identifying goals

Before we start a campaign, we need to identify what your goals are, and set up identifiable and achievable targets. This includes using tools like Google Analytics to set up goal conversion tracking, as well as Google Search Console, SEMrush position tracking, Hotjar and a few other tools.

Examples of goals could include:

  • Duration goals – getting your user to stay on your website for a specific length of time (the longer the better!)
  • Destination goals – getting people to a specific page
  • Event goals, which can track the number of users:
    • - filling out a specific form
    • - clicking on a specific button
    • - clicking on a specific URL (an outbound click)

These goals provide a really valuable insight into your sites performance and will help us identify improvements we can make to better guide your visitors through your website.

Let's break this down a bit more:

How we measure success

Beyond simply measuring goals, we also look at other headline statistics over time. For instance, how many people arrived at your site from Google? How many pages did they look through? A big giveaway that a search engine strategy is working is increased interest, usually shown by guests visiting your site for longer, dropping off less and seeing more pages per visit. We should also gradually see a higher percentage of visitors arriving directly from search engines.

Technical factors

We typically start an SEO campaign by looking at technical issues we can tweak and optimise. These include:

  • - Management of robots.txt and XML/HTML sitemaps
  • - General site health, including security
  • - Site speed
  • - Google Search Console & Analytics management

On-page health

How content is laid out on your website plays a big part in search ranking. We do all sorts here, but some of the headline changes include:

  • - Adding keyword-targeted content on important SEO pages
  • - Site structure and user experience
  • - Internal linking (linking between pages)
  • - Deploying Rich Snippets, this for instance, can tell Google information on location, prices, opening hours etc.
  • - Optimised, best practice web design

Local & off-page

Inbound links (links pointing to your website) are really important. Each one acts as a referral from a third party, boosting your websites authority. We try and promote links from third parties in a range of ways, such as:

  • - Creation of directory listings
  • - Backlink campaigns from other properties you might own or from organisations you work closely with
  • - Overall backlink audits
  • - Use of backlinks to selected third parties, that can help your site by proxy (for instance, a separate blog)
  • - Using rich media like video and social media to generate backlinks

Organic traffic is one of your organisations most important assets. Customers inherently trust organically ranked content above paid channels and the reach from high traffic keywords can have a huge impact on how many goals your website creates.

The common consensus is that if you’re not on the first page of results in organic search, then you are unlikely to be seen by customers. A 2013 article by Search Engine Watch found that the first ranked position on a search engine results page gets 33% of all traffic for that search, and that’s been consistent every year since. To add a bit more detail, the top 10 results account for nearly all the traffic going to any given search term. In short, people hardly ever click on links in the second page of search results. For this reason, our SEO team always strive to rank you as high as we possibly can, to have the most positive impact on overall search visibility.

The great thing about SEO is that the work you put in lasts. As such, it can be seen as an investment that builds up over time. Contrast this with paid traffic acquisition, such as AdWords, which ends the minute you stop paying. However, the shortcoming of SEO is that it takes a little time and effort to achieve results. This will pay off with better quality, higher converting traffic over time, although sometimes the search optimisation process has some incredible short term impacts as well.

Getting SEO right isn't easy, search engines change the game month on month and keeping up can be frustrating. We use our knowledge and experience to make sure we have a plan that works for your business. Technical knowledge aside, we have the practical and hands-on experience to overcome any challenge you might be having.

Leeds has become a competitive space for SEO, but we stand out by making sure your requirements are dealt with in the best way possible. We don't try and fit a square peg in a round hole, we find a formula that works for your business.
